sephora - "part of your world" eyeshadow palette

That's right, folks.

For whatever reason, and this must be a first-world problem, because...well, really, especially for the past year, any time I get paid, I just go crazy with my money. I had a lot more to spend with this past paycheck (all thanks to my move), so I spent so much of it on makeup from Sephora and Ulta. Now, I'm really stingy with spending money on cosmetics. I realize the better stuff is more expensive, so any time I do go to a higher-end shop, I make sure to get some free swag with my purchases. I am going to get my money's worth of stuff, and I sure did that this past Friday.

I'll get to the majority of my swag probably tomorrow or Saturday, but today... well, you see that picture. Any 80's/90's girls who are reading this just might be gawking hearing about a name-brand "The Little Mermaid" makeup set. There aren't too many higher-end brands who sell Disney products. MAC had the "Venemous Villains" collection back in 2010 (I still use my Cruella de Vil eyeshadow and lipgloss), and lately Sephora's been releasing various Princess collections (Cinderella & Jasmine). According to various sources, Ariel's collection will be the last by Sephora. I'm surprised, because I know they make money from this. These type of things sell out in a heartbeat. Who knows, their loss might be someone else's gain.

I find it a bit off that this was released within the past month. I figure they would have released this around the time that "The Little Mermaid" is going to be released on blu-ray/3D blu-ray for it's Diamond Edition. I'm not complaining too much, though; I'd rather spend my money in increments than all together. (I'll be spending... probably no more than $40 on the steelbook blu-ray from Zavvi, so I'd rather spend $30 now on this and $40 on that later!) This, of course, reminds me that this film won't be re-released in theatres due to the lack of success of previous Disney re-releases. ("The Lion King" was the only successful re-release, which doesn't surprise me. I have a feeling this would have been profitable, but I guess we'll never know.)

Around the packaging has the quote "Dreams are realities in waiting". I know some people have been questioning it and it's relevance to the film, and while I agree it's a bit of a strange quote, I understand why it's there. Ariel was a big dreamer, and wanted her dreams to become a reality eventually. I actually like the quote, and I'll probably start doodling it.

The item itself is a lot heavier than I expected. I knew the palette had a mirror, but I still figured it would be a basic, light (not-heavy) palette. I'm not complaining; in my eyes, it's heavier because it's a better product! Ha. The packaging itself is very shiny and detailed, with lots of gadgets and gizmos galore. (See what I did there?)

There are four colors included in this palette: "who's-it" (shiny white), "what's it?" (beige-ish/neutral), "dinglehopper" aka the best eyeshadow name EVER (green), and "snarfblat" (shiny purple). I'm wearing all four colors today, but I'm mentally hitting myself for not putting on primer today, so the colors aren't showing up to their full potential. "what's-it?" is very neutral, so it's hardly showing up. I'm only wearing it on my lower lid, though; I wanted to display the other colors on the top lid today.

The palette.

Outdoors / Indoors

There's that quote again! Apart from being on the box, it's also on the mirror. There are also closer shots of the eyeshadows. The first picture was taken in my car with the sun shining on it, and the second is in my work office with white-ish lights shining on it.

A closer look at my eyes.

Woo, I look like doodie today. Excuse my general tired look. Also excuse my eyebrows. I'm growing them out, and I slept kinda badly last night.

The eyeshadows applied fine, but the brushes I used were terrible. (With my purchase from Ulta, I got a makeup bag full of goodies, including three brushes. They fall apart easily.) I've been working on blending my colors lately! I'm happy with the results of today's attempt, though I'm still bummed I forgot primer. Ah well.

Tomorrow I'll be wearing the "Stylish in Seoul" palette that I also got from Sephora. I'm very excited to try that one out!
